Language apps are broken.
We're fixing them.
Built with rage against Language Guitar Hero.
The founder's story
Mynago was created by Alej Pascual, a polyglot who speaks 11 languages. After years of watching people struggle with apps that prioritize engagement metrics over actual learning, he decided to build what he wished existed.
The mainstream apps have it backwards. They gamify the process (streaks, XP, leaderboards) because engagement keeps you paying. But engagement isn't learning. You can maintain a 500-day streak and still not order coffee in your target language.
Polyglots don't learn this way. They learn through immersion, context, and repetition. They build mental models of how a language works, not memorize disconnected vocabulary lists. They learn culture alongside language because the two are inseparable.
What's broken
Gamification over learning
Streaks and XP reward opening the app, not actually learning.
Decontextualized vocabulary
Memorizing "the horse eats bread" teaches you nothing useful.
One-size-fits-all
Everyone gets the same lessons regardless of why they're learning.
Culture as afterthought
Language without culture is just words. You need both to communicate.
What Mynago does differently
